Sophie Elm is a printmaker, illustrator and designer. She creates illustrative linocuts, as well as hand block printed textiles.
Her work is driven by seasonal changes in the garden and countryside around her. Through history humans have celebrated nature and the changing of the seasons in different cultures. Sophie feels this is important to continue to do today and her work is her personal method of doing so. She uses vibrant colours, pattern and often combines typography too; an influence from her illustrative background.
Although her work is predominately hand burnished linocuts, she likes to experiment with other forms of printmaking too, such as bock printed textiles, as well as paper cutting and drawing… everything starts with pencil and paper.
Sophie studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art and now works from her home studio in the Stroud Valleys, Gloucestershire.
Her prints and textiles are sold through her own website, as well as a selection of galleries and independent shops across the UK. Sophie enjoys working with others and takes on commissions, both private and commercial.
Her work has been featured in Period Living, Country Living, Modern Gardens and Frankie Magazine.
