BASED IN WEST SUSSEX, I TURN BOWLS AND OTHER FORMS MADE FROM A MIX OF LOCAL OR SUSTAINABLE HARDWOODS USING RENEWABLE ENERGY.
My turnings revolve around flared and straight sided bowl shapes which I also like to incorporate to some degree in my ‘tall forms’ and boxes.
I like to use techniques such as beading, ebonising and lime waxing in my turnings. Beading increases the tactile nature of the pieces, though some of it isn’t always visible, for example on the base of all my bowls.
Ebonising high tannin content wood, such as Cherry, Oak and Sapele creates contrast with sharp lines and lime waxing enhances open grained woods such as Ash, Iroko and Oak. Combining both techniques can give an even more striking effect.
My product range includes bowls, tall forms and loose lidded boxes which all feature an element of the techniques I’ve mentioned above and can be varied according to any commissions.
I’m a member of the Association of Sussex Artists exhibiting at their twice yearly exhibitions and I’m one of the makers exhibiting at Dansel Contemporary Wood Gallery, Abbotsbury, Dorset.
