Flowers for Susie is the print based studio of Charlotte Simmonds, a printmaker and textile designer creates handmade lampshades and textiles in her studio in Dorset using bold repeat patterns inspired by her love of mid century colour & print. Captivated by repeat pattern, Charlotte loves to use motifs and simple silhouettes to create modern design statements for the home which evoke a warm sense of nostalgia.
All Charlotte’s designs start life as a lino print, the prints are then digitally crafted to create the unique patterns and colour combinations with a mid-century modern aesthetic. Inspired by nature in the local wooded chine which surrounds her home as well as the urban landscape she grew up with, each motif has story to tell.
The lampshades are all handmade to order by Charlotte in her studio by the sea in Dorset. She works closely with a small factory in the north of England to produce the digitally printed heavy weave cotton she uses for all her lampshades and textile products.
In addition to her handmade lampshades Charlotte has created a capsule range of complimentary products for the home, working with a range of independent UK manufacturers to support her range.
Flowers for Susie was originally established in 2014 as creative charity project in memory of Charlotte’s mother Susie. The brand continues to have a strong connection to charity, this year continuing to support Michael House homeless hostel with charity donations and creative volunteer workshops for the hostel residents.
