Acme Atelier is the studio of bespoke kiltmaker Andrea Chappell, who combines the heritage craft skills of kiltmaking and printmaking with those of contemporary design, exploring broader possibilities for pleating construction techniques, alongside original textile creation. Andreas bespoke kilts are hand-stitched in the traditional method using bespoke tailoring techniques, often combined with original artworks printed onto, or inside her kilts. Her sustainable ethos is fundamental to her practise, specifically using end-of-roll or discontinued textiles, vintage fabrics and deadstock cloth to create unique, contemporary kilts. She has recently launched her IV36 initiative, promoting a local circular economy specifically to remake and re-design woollen knitwear and re-purpose fabric remnants, to commit 20% of profits towards training kiltmakers of the next generation.
